I gave a workshop on Friday at the Southeast Journalism Conference about Immersive Journalism and how it is not a new thing. At all. We have been telling stories that immerse readers for ages – from moon landings to impeachments. What is new, however, is how we can embody our readers – suddenly they are witnessing the story around them rather than having the story mediated through a screen. We had a good discussion, not least about the ethical implications of witnessing versus agency in reporting an embodied, immersive piece.
